About The Role

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title: GMP Cleaning Operative Reporting to: GMP Chargehand

Purpose of role The GMP Cleaning Operative ensures compliant, safe, and effective cleaning and disinfection of GMP facilities (Grades A/B/C/D), supporting product quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.

Main duties will include

  • Work safely and efficiently, complying with all GMP requirements and using required PPE.
  • Read and apply SDS for chemicals and always follow approved cleaning SOPS.
  • Always operate all cleaning equipment safely.
  • Maintain current training and required qualifications on time.
  • Complete applicable logbooks and review them at the end of each shift when required.
  • Schedule and execute weekly and monthly cleaning as required.
  • Check expiry labels daily and remove/replace any out-of-date items.
  • Monitor stock and garb (gowning materials) levels; replenish daily and request stock from the warehouse as needed.
  • Attend daily briefings with the chargehand to align on room availability and additional tasks.
  • Perform regular walk-throughs of assigned areas to maintain a high standard.
  • Complete the daily schedule and assigned tasks in full and to a high standard.
  • Staff may be assigned to work in any area within GMP facilities during their shift and are not restricted to a single building; assignments depend on operational needs and qualification status.
  • Be trained and qualified for cleanrooms Grades A, B, C, and D; perform cleaning in any grade when assigned, maintain competency through yearly requalification, and document all activities in line with data integrity and QA expectations.
  • Data Integrity (ALCOA+): Ensure records are attributable, legible, contemporaneous, original, accurate, complete, consistent, enduring, and available.
  • Know spill response (chemical/biological), fire procedures, and evacuation routes.
  • Provide clear verbal and written handover, including area status, outstanding tasks, and issues.
  • Comply with health status declarations (e.g., open wounds, illness), personal hygiene standards, and restrictions on cosmetics/jewellery.
  • Understand how cleaning status impacts batch release; ensure traceable links between cleaning records, areas, lot numbers, and time.
  • Acknowledge that procedures, chemicals, or equipment may change under change control, complete required retraining before use.
  • Report deviations, near misses, hazards, and any events immediately; support investigations and implement CAPAs.
  • Demonstrate correct gowning and de-gowning per grade, including glove disinfection frequency and behaviours in Grade A/B.
  • Segregate and remove waste safely (biohazard, chemical, general, recycling) per SOP.

    Conduct

  • Timekeeping and attendance: Clock in and out for all shifts and any mid‑shift exits/returns, including breaks, per site procedure. Leaving site during a shift requires clocking out/in.
  • Shift handover: All staff must attend the board handover at the designated time.
  • Leaving site: Leaving site during a shift requires clocking out/in per site procedure and managers approval.
  • Timekeeping: Clocking in and out is mandatory for all shifts and any mid-shift exits/returns, including breaks.
  • Compliance: Non-compliance with attendance, timekeeping, or break controls may result in corrective action per company policy.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively in English for work-related verbal and written communications during shifts, where required to ensure safety, operational clarity, GMP compliance, and effective interaction with clients and colleagues. Raise concerns, incidents, or deviations promptly through the appropriate reporting channels. Proactive in identifying risks, reporting events, and supporting CAPA and continuous improvement.
